The 2012 phenomenon was a widespread public interest and dominated with eschatological speculation with nearly all theories involving Maya culture[1], specifically the ending of the Ancient Maya calendar said to be 21 December 2012. Theories included severe solar maximums[2], magnetic pole reversal[3], a collision with another planet[4], and even a “radical shift in human consciousness”[1].
